Foundation's First 5K for Fitness Attracts Teachers/Staff Among 500 Runners

Hundreds of CHCCS teachers, staff, students, parents and friends came out Saturday for the first 5K for Fitness organized by the Public School Foundation.
The 5K capped off a six-week training program offered through Fleet Street Sports for faculty and staff at each school. Fleet Feet was a major partner in the 5K.
Organizer Christine Cotton recruited both parent and faculty mentors at each school to coordinate training sessions and encourage participation.
Mascots from seven schools joined the first-ever Mascot Dash including the  Estes Hills eagle, the McDougle Elem. dolphin, the Ephesus Roadrunner, the Morris Grove Gecko, the Mary Scroggs Frog, the FPG Lion, the East Chapel Hill Wildcat. and the Rashkis Raptor. The Ephesus Roadrunner won the dash.
Morris Grove Elem. School won the prize for most faculty and staff participation and most overall participation. The fastest runner was Brendan  Howell, Smith Middle, and the fastest female runner was  Hannah Goodwin-Brown, Carrboro Elem. Runners included Tom Forcella, supt., Todd LoFrese, asst. supt., and Mike Kelley, school board member, all winners in their age groups.
