Walk/Race for Education
The Public School Foundation’s Walk/Race for Education is the major fundraiser for our local public schools. This year's Walk will take place on October 1st with the theme of “FUNKY 15,” commemorating our 15th year. The Race for Education will be held in the spring on April 28, 2012.
Last year, more than 4,000 students, parents and community members gathered at McCorkle Place and walked down Franklin Street to Lincoln Center where they participated in the Post-Walk Carnival among record breaking crowds. Over 200 runners participated in the 7th annual 5K Race for Education which generated more funding and promoted awareness for health and exercise within a community-based atmosphere. This year the Race for Education will be held in the spring, 2012.
The annual Walk and Race is the only project that provides the opportunity for all schools in the district to generate funds for their own programs, clubs, sports and other extra-curricular activities. The need for the Walk and Race to support our schools is critical. Proceeds from the Walk and Race could offset some of the cuts in crucial areas, such as basic supplies and materials, technology, the arts and more, based on the needs of each school.
