Walk for Education
The Public School Foundation's Walk for Education is an annual fundraiser that brings together students, teachers, parents and community members in support of the local public schools in Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Last year's Walk was held on October 10, 2015 commemorating our 19th year. About 3,000 students, teachers, parents and community members gathered at McCorkle Place and walked down Franklin Street to Lincoln Center, the district's central office, where they participated in a huge carnival with games, food and more organized by school clubs, teams and groups. There was also a FUN ZONE held in the gym at Lincoln Center which featured old fashioned carnival games and cardboard games designed by some our district's fifth grade classes. In total, the schools raised over $115,000.
The annual Walk for Education is the only fundraiser that provides the opportunity for all schools in the district to generate funds for their own projects. The need for the Walk in supporting our schools is critical. Proceeds from the Walk help offset cuts in crucial areas such as basic supplies and materials, technology, the arts and more.
