Old Walk for Education Content
The Public School Foundation’s Walk for Education is the major fundraiser for our local public schools. Last year's Walk was held on October 5th with the theme of "Hit the Road 17" commemorating our 17th year.
More than 8,000 students, parents and community members gathered at McCorkle Place and walked down Franklin Street to Lincoln Center where they participated in the Post-Walk Carnival among record breaking crowds. Seawell Elementary had the largest number of walkers (487). Glenwood Elementary, celebrating its 60th anniversary, won the prize for the best school spirit and Ephesus Road Elementary was the top fundraising school. In total the schools raised over $120,000.
The annual Walk for Education is the only project that provides the opportunity for all schools in the district to generate funds for their own programs, clubs, sports and other extra-curricular activities. The need for the Walk to support our schools is critical. Proceeds from the Walk could offset some of the cuts in crucial areas, such as basic supplies and materials, technology, the arts and more, based on the needs of each school.
