Dear 2016 Walk for Education School Representatives,

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation is delighted to join you in planning the 20th Annual Walk for Education and the post-Walk Carnival which will take place on Saturday, October 15, 2016. In bringing families, students, teachers and businesses together to show support for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, the Walk and Carnival have become major fundraising events for our schools and beloved traditions in our community.

This unique opportunity for schools to generate funds for projects they choose is also a school spirit booster. Students, teachers and families come out to show their support for their school parading down Franklin Street to a Carnival with fun inflatables and school-sponsored booths of games of chance, craft activities, food and more!

This is a high-yield fundraiser! Corporate sponsors work with the PSF to underwrite a large part of the expenses incurred in staging the Walk and Carnival (i.e. buses, police officers, EMS, sound systems, etc.). This means that schools do not have to contribute a lot to offset costs and are able to retain 85% of pledges raised! Consider the return over other popular school fundraisers...

  • Scholastic Book Fair 25%
  • Cookie Dough Sales 40%
  • Wrapping Paper Sales 50%
  • Walk for Education 85%

The Walk also raises school spirit, and since you don’t have to donate in order to walk or attend the Carnival, it is an inclusive event. Additionally, the PSF gives free t-shirts and ride tickets to the family specialist at each school to distribute to high-need students who wish to participate.

As your school’s “Walk Rep” you will:

  • Communicate information and generate excitement among students, teachers and parents
  • Distribute donor envelopes
  • Collect donor envelopes and money
  • Tally and report money and incentives earned
  • Distribute incentives and prizes
  • Spearhead your school’s effort to show spirit on Walk day

Please print out the School Rep Timeline to remind you of critical deadlines. Detailed instructions about every aspect of the Walk are included on this website. Please print them out or refer to them often. We have included many helpful hints and “best practices” which have been developed over the years.

We have a great team working to assist you as you raise money and spirit for your school! Don’t hesitate to contact us with questions:
