Walk Day Information

OCTOBER 10th: Walk Day!

Free Shuttle Buses will begin running from locations to be determined later (University Mall and high schools or middle schools) to McCorkle Place on UNC’s Campus at 12:30pm.  Encourage families to use these shuttles as parking is tight on Franklin Street and not available at Lincoln Center.

The Walk will leave McCorkle Place at 2:00pm.  Encourage families to arrive by 1:30pm

You will be provided with a map of McCorkle Place prior to the Walk and signs for each school will be visible so your walkers will know where to congregate as they arrive.

The Walk will begin at McCorkle Place on UNC’s campus and will follow Franklin Street to Merritt Mill Road where we will make a left hand turn and continue on to the Carnival at Lincoln Center.

Judges for the school spirit contest will be located at the post office on Franklin Street.  Show them how great you feel about your school and maybe you will win the $200 School Spirit Contest, which will be announced at the Carnival.

There will be water stations located along the Walk route and a sweep van will follow behind the parade to pick up anyone needing assistance.

Chapel Hill police officers will block off sections of Franklin Street as we walk, but students should be aware of their surroundings while walking and stay out of harm’s way.

NO DOGS are allowed at the Walk.

The Carnival will offer rides, games, food and other attractions.  Tickets for rides and attractions will be for sale.  We will have a master list of wristband recipients for those who forget to bring theirs.  Family specialists will have been given ride tickets to distribute to students who otherwise would not be able to participate.  All booths are fundraisers for schools. 100% of Carnival proceeds go to the schools.

Raffle winners will be announced during the Carnival. You do not need to be present to win.

Shuttle buses will begin running from Lincoln Center back to the shuttle sites as well as to McCorkle Place at 3pm and will continue until 6pm.
